Sources and corrections

Readers should be able to recover the record, understand its date and scope, and see where our interpretation begins.

Source order

  1. Official award records and government spending systems.
  2. Enacted law, budget exhibits, program documents, and regulatory records.
  3. SEC filings, audited financials, merger filings, and official corporate records.
  4. GAO, congressional support agencies, inspectors general, and court records.
  5. Company announcements for the company’s own attributed claims.
  6. Primary research and reputable reporting where the primary record is incomplete.

What each citation carries

The article’s Sources section records the source title, publisher, record date, exact URL, and date last checked. Contextual citation numbers link directly to the supporting record. Time-sensitive facts carry a visible cutoff date.

Corrections

A substantiated material error will be corrected promptly, with a note identifying the original error and the corrected fact. Corrections are evaluated against recoverable records, and every material revision receives a new source and calculation check.
